Nintendo is releasing the Famicom Detective Club visual novel duology for the Switch on May 14th, 2021. The Famicom Detective Club games, The Missing Heir and The Girl Who Stands Behind, were originally released in Japan on the Famicom Disk System in 1988 and 1989, respectively.

The first game in the series, The Missing Heir, features a soundtrack by both Kenji Yamamoto and Hirokazu “Hip” Tanaka. The soundtrack to the second game, The Girl Who Stands Behind, was composed entirely by Kenji Yamamoto. The 2021 re-releases of these games will feature both the 8-bit original soundtracks as well as remade modern tracks.

Kenji Yamamoto has composed the music for many Nintendo titles, most notably Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!, Super Metroid, and the Metroid Prime series. Hip Tanaka is also a famous composer of many Nintendo titles, including Metroid, Super Mario Land, and Earthbound.

While Nintendo is only releasing the Famicom Detective Club games digitally in North American, they are releasing a physical Collector’s Edition in Japan. The Collector’s Edition includes both games, as well as two CDs containing 75 tracks from both the Famicom Disk System originals and the Super Famicom remake of The Girl Who Stands Behind. The Collector’s Edition can be pre-ordered from Amazon Japan and Play-Asia, and is also scheduled to be released on May 14th, 2021.
