The Live A Live remake CD soundtrack, composed by Yoko Shimomura, is shipping soon.

Live A Live is a JRPG published by Square for the Super Famicom in Japan in September 1994. It sold modestly in Japan, and given low expectations for sales worldwide, it was not localized for release outside of Japan at the time. However, in July 2022, Square Enix released a remake of the game worldwide for the Nintendo Switch.

Live A Live was released after Final Fantasy VI and before Chrono Trigger. Unlike the epic stories that fans associate with Square games of the mid-1990’s, Live A Live consists of seven self-contained scenarios set in different timeframes ranging from caveman era to the distant future. These seven chapters can be completed in any order, and doing so unlocks additional content that ties together the stories.

Live A Live’s soundtrack is the first work composed by Yoko Shimomura after she joined Square in 1993. She was previously at Capcom, where she composed the soundtrack to Street Fighter 2, and contributed to the soundtrack for Final Fight. After joining Square, Shimomura composed the soundtracks to many classic RPGs, including Super Mario RPG, Legend of Mana, and Kingdom Hearts.

For the 2022 remake of Live A Live, Square Enix brought back Shimomura to oversee the soundtrack again. The music for the original game was produced in MIDI format on a PC-9800, and converted to the Super Famicom soundchip. For the remake, the soundtrack is newly orchestrated after Shimomura re-composed the soundtrack along with a team of arrangers at Square Enix.

The 2 CD soundtrack is available for order now and is shipping soon.
