Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIII for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in Japan on December 17th, 2009, and in the rest of the world in March 2010. While the game’s reception and legacy is mixed, even critics acknowledge the brilliant soundtrack composed by Masashi Hamauzu. For the 12 year anniversary of the game’s release, the Square Enix store has restocked the vinyl, W/F: Music from FINAL FANTASY XIII.

Square Enix originally released this vinyl as a limited release in Japan in February 2010, before the modern resurgence in popularity of vinyl and video game music vinyl. In fact, W/F: Music from FINAL FANTASY XIII was the first vinyl that Square Enix released in the modern era. The release contains eight tracks, sourced from the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra recordings. It also includes a version of the “Ragnorok” by the Warsaw Philharmonic choir without the background organ. For those of us who are not fans of the picture discs that Square Enix have been releasing lately, W/F: Music from FINAL FANTASY XIII is a regular black vinyl.

While I know that it’s not a popular opinion, Final Fantasy XIII is my favorite 3D Final Fantasy, second only to VI in the whole series. The aspects of the Final Fantasy series I enjoy most are the music, the battles, and the outrageous plots. In my opinion Final Fantasy XIII excels in each of those domains. Whether or not you agree with me about the game, most people enjoy the music, so consider picking up this vinyl.
